Tradjenta is used alongside diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Don’t use it for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
It works by regulating insulin levels that your body produces after eating, helping to control blood sugar levels. Specifically, it inhibits the dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) enzyme, which plays a role in blood sugar regulation.
Yes, Tradjenta can be taken with other diabetes medications, but it’s important to inform your doctor about all the medications you’re taking. Certain drugs may affect Tradjenta’s efficacy or increase the risk of side effects.
Common side effects include stuffy or runny nose, sore throat, cough, and diarrhea. Most side effects are mild and temporary, but if they persist or worsen, contacting your healthcare provider is advised.
Weight gain was noted as a side effect in clinical trials, particularly when Tradjenta was used in combination with certain diabetes medications. Discuss any concerns about weight changes with your doctor.
The safety of Tradjenta for pregnant or breastfeeding individuals is not well-established. If you’re pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, it’s important to discuss your medication options with your healthcare provider.
