Lixisenatide, known under the brand name Adlyxin, is a medication for managing type 2 diabetes mellitus. Take proper diet and exercise along with this medicine to improve blood sugar control in adults. It’s not for treating type 1 diabetes or for people with a history of pancreatitis.
It functions as a GLP-1 receptor agonist, which means it works by increasing insulin release in response to high blood sugar levels, decreasing the amount of sugar your liver makes, and slowing down food leaving your stomach to help prevent blood sugar spikes.
While it can be a game-changer for many, it’s not without its side effects. These can range from mild, like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, to more severe ones, such as pancreatitis, kidney problems, and severe allergic reactions. It’s crucial to speak with your doctor if you experience any side effects.

Always discuss with your healthcare provider about any other medications you’re taking to ensure they won’t interfere with Lixisenatide.

If you’re pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, discuss it with your doctor to weigh the benefits against the risks.

It’s injected under the skin (subcutaneously) in the thigh, upper arm, or abdomen. Remember, don’t share your Lixisenatide pen with others, even if the needle has been changed.
If you miss a dose of Lixisenatide, take it within an hour before your next meal if possible. However, if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your regular dosing schedule. Avoid using an extra dose to make up for the missed one.
