Basaglar Cartridge Drug Info (Pack with 5 insulin cartridges x 3 mL each)

  • OVERVIEW

Basaglar is a long-acting type of insulin, which works a few hours after injection and lasts for about 24 hours. It is the first biosimilar insulin used to control blood sugar levels in diabetes, including diabetes type 1 and 2.

  • HOW IT WORKS?

Basaglar works by regulating the metabolism of glucose. Using the stimulation of glucose uptake by skeletal and fat muscle, insulin with its analogues are able to lower blood sugar levels. Achieved simultaneously, Basaglar has an inhibitory action on the hepatic production of glucose.

  • DOSAGE

This colorless and sterile solution is supplied in a 3 mL form.

The exact dosage of Basaglar will vary from patient to patient, usually ranging from 1 to 80 units. This medication should be injected once per day at the same time every day. To assist in the treatment for type 1 diabetes, it is recommended to start the treatment with ⅓ of the total daily requirements for insulin. In addition to Basaglar, it is recommended to take pre-meal insulin and a rapid or short acting insulin to be used for the daily insulin requirement.
